Hate "black culture"

I'm a black person and I hate the whole "black culture" side of my race. Things like BET and HIP-HOP and certain slang words and cultural movies/icons. It's like I've been over exposed because of my family so I find that stuff cringe and annoying. Am I racist for hating a good percentage of black people's culture and style? I just get called an oreo at school if I say I don't like a particular "black" thing. Is it wrong to hate and resent your culture? I just wanna be me, why do I have to like that kind of stuff to be black? I don't hate black people at all, I just hate black music and television and things like that.

Is It Normal?

  • It's not your culture, being black doesn't mean you have to be a part of that culture.

It's completely fine to dislike a culture for any reason aslong as it doesn't come to belittling innocent people for it.

I myself like a few things you dislike, as a white person but people have different tastes. This Oreo comment people made is ridiculous. Being black doesn't mean you must be stereotyped into liking black entertainment.

Do you, man. Nothing wrong. :)

  • You are not a racist, and anyone that thinks you are can go eat shit and die! You have a right to your own personal preferences and opinions, and you don't owe anyone black, white or otherwise a damn thang! The color of your skin doesn't determine your intelligence, character, personality or temperament. The people who call you Oreo, and tell you that you're a racist are just ignorant ass haters, losers, and scumbags.

  • contemporary black culture is garbage. if you just look back a few years, like, pre-80s, black culture was pretty fucking cool. you should celebrate artists like jimi hendrix and nat king cole and barry white, and celebrate people like Booker T. Washington. that's all "black culture" too, but it's not braindead degenerate garbage like mumblerap, trapping, and all that hood thug bullshit.

  • The reason modern black culture exists is because naturally blacks wouldn't live in a western nation and thus it creates many problems

  • Todays black culture has nothing to do with their origins it is just a way that only american black people act like. Therefor it has nothing to do with being black at all. I know plenty of black people who hate how their race acts as a whole so no its perfectly normal and id side with you on this one.

  • Since I'm white & not racist at all IMO, I perhaps shouldn't comment but I understand. I just don't get the whole black 'cool' culture. Gotta be hip talking slang all the time! I often wonder if when folks that act like that ever take time off and just be themselves? Oh, BTW, I can't stand white trash acting folks either.
Maybe I need to be more accepting, ya think?

  • You don't need to like all the things your family likes just because it's a part of who they are. If I needed to like everything from my families culture I'd need to love The Witcher (polish) but I find it quite overrated. :P

You just do you, don't worry about whether you're being "black enough", that's just silly. We're all just people, with vastly disparate tastes and likes in life.

You do you, if you can be anything in this life, be real. :)

  • You can like whatever you want, and dislike whatever you want.

Who are people to say what your personality and opinions are?
