Has the english language been lost forever?

When forty winters shall besiege thy brow,
And dig deep trenches in thy beauty's field,
Thy youth's proud livery, so gaz'd on now,
Will be a tatter'd weed, of small worth held:
Then being ask'd where all thy beauty lies,
Where all the treasure of thy lusty days,
To say, within thine own deep-sunken eyes,
Were an all-eating shame and thriftless praise.
How much more praise deserv'd thy beauty's use,
If thou couldst answer, 'This fair child of mine
Shall sum my count, and make my old excuse,'
Proving his beauty by succession thine!
This were to be new made when thou art old,
And see thy blood warm when thou feel'st it
cold.

Yes sir it has 9
Fear not my friend, all is not lost 28

I don't really understand what you're getting at. Just because the language has changed, doesn't mean it's "lost forever". The writing in your description is English, this comment is English, they're just different. The language is going to continue to change.

Isn't it a bit stupid asking whether English has been lost forever...in English? I don't really get it.

That is like saying "English is lost forever" because we do not use Middle Ages English.

I don't understand.. Most of this site is in English. Even for the non English speakers. Why do you believe this language is dying? I would be very concerned if it did. If I must give up English I am just going to carry around a note pad and paper.

It never existed in the first place, every language is a decedent from another language. I think it's just evolving.

a language is not something static, it changes through time and with usage. i don't think shakespearean english times were so much better than now in that sense. surely a lot of people had no proper knowledge of the language and had their influence in how it evolved into what it is today. but that's what it is: a living structure subject to the influence of its users collectively. whether you deem it a path to extinction or not it is still very much alive and transforming
