Halloween mask phobia

I am scared to death of halloween masks, and scary halloween decorations and such. I hyperventalate, twitch, scream really loud, and sometimes even pass out. I just over-all freak out at the sight of one.

I know people get scared, but is it normal to have merely a peice of plastic as one of your greatest fears?

Is It Normal?

  • It's just a phobia. You should try to get over it. Maybe you could talk to someone who can help further, like a psychiatrist. Or maybe you could try to be around similar paints and such for a while and work your way up from there.

My cousin had gotten me really afraid of vampires when I was younger. She used to tell me stories and even tried to convince me that a member of our family was a vampire (looong story). Anyhow, I just kept telling myself they weren't real (partly because I looove Halloween and didn't want to be afraid of anything about it.) Now, I can say "vampire" without shrieking my head off. I even read the entire "Twilight" series.

Anyhow, remember that the things you're afraid of are only props. They're meant to have fun with, not to be afraid of. If you can stand it eventually, put a mask on. That way YOU are the monster. YOU are doing the scaring. But, when you take it off, you're still you.

    • Agree with Penguin completely! Interact with your fears to overcome them.

    • Actually, my father used to scare the shit out of me when I was little, no matter how scared I was. I could be hysterical crying and he'd still do it.
