I think a lot of people would be cool with that but it just depends how liberal-minded your friends and community are. If you're comfortable with yourself and you have enough of a support circle to feel loved, then there's no need to hide it. But you don't need to advertise it either. I doubt other people will think it's as big a deal as you expect. But I can only speak on behalf of the kind of community I'm used to, which is an open-minded one.
