Most people are close to and friends with people of a similar degree of intelligence; we naturally gravitate that way. The same can be said of a girlfriend or boyfriend. It's attractive when someone can understand what you're talking about, gets your jokes and makes their own, can initiate conversation, be thoughtful etc.
That usually means the wider the intelligence gap, the less compatible two people are. A girl who is vastly more intelligent than me or a girl who is basically retarded probably won't be as attractive as a girl who is equally intelligent.
So intelligence per se isn't attractive, but equal intelligence is :)
