Have you talked to a Canadian about their health system? The best health care in the world is in Cuba. Are you saying we should live like them? With hundreds fleeing Cuba every year?
And how much freedom are you willing to sacrifice to be "safe". In China you have to register with the government to buy a pocket knife. I'm sorry but living in a country with the largest standing military and not having a gun doesn't make me feel safe. I want one just in case some crazy orange man who thinks his daughter is hot and wants a military parade because he is jealous of North Korea wants to establish martial law. Or a more realistic scenario a bear walks out of the woods and starts to kill someone I love. Or some tweaked out meth head breaks in to my house in the middle of the night.
I don't care what makes you feel safe. I want to be safe. I want the right to protect myself with the best tool possible. And that tool is a gun.
A gun.
I agree.
That's a right.
I support it.
But, you don't need an assault rifle.
What night time bandit takes one more step looking at a 12 gauge single shot pointed their way?
How about getting the politicians to stop trying to put their name on a bill so they can make a mark on history, and make them do their jobs. Approve responsible budgets on time. Stop them from one working one month a year and getting a full years pay and benefits. Spend the money you save on more police and better training in non-violent resolution. Punish departments that feel the need to spend their surplus budget on military tanks. That's just a start.
How can you help. Don't just listen to what your told. Read, research, check your sources. And when your done with the research actually get involved. Write your Congressman and Senators, and more importantly your local politicians.
No, Fox news is not a reliable source. In fact most news stations aren't reliable. They all want you to stay tuned so they will find the best dirt to show you. "These kids saw their class mates gunned down and here's footage of them crying. Stay tuned and we will show the blurred images of the dead bodies."
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I always ask young people what we as a nation can do to prevent more of these bad things from happening and most of the time I get the responce,” why does it matter what I do, I can’t change it by myself, so why should I try/care” as they slowly become the bystander who watches the world burn. If more peope called in to their local congressman, people might do their job and things might get done.
I’ve stopped watching the news altogether... I follow stations on social media so I do know when things happen but after that I do the research to get a more factual information and less opinionated drama.
I know it doesn't seem like it but local legislators are often more important than their federal counterparts. It's good to see some still try to influence the people who rule our world.
I watch the local news only to get the weather. Don't watch the network news.
Gun problems are basically because Americans are so bad at marksmanship. In Canada you get ONE hunting rifle, bolt action, 5 shot magazine. If you miss, tough shit. The Polar Bear eats you. Guess what? Canadians always hit their target on the first shot.
Kim Jon Un wouldn't last very long on our continent north of the border.
Not all in the US are bad shots just the majority. Some of the best snipers and sharpshooters are from the US. The problem is most people never get to even touch a gun until they have to use one to defend themselves. Most only know what they see on TV. Every time I see someone holding a gun sideways I want to scream.
Nonsense. Millions of expert shots in the U.S. Far more than in Canada. You've been watching too much television. Only ghetto rats hold a gun sideways.
I agree. But their are a lot more people in the US than there is in Canada. I don't really watch TV. I have actually seen a guy hold a gun sideways, against multiple suggestions against it, and he ended up burning his arm.
That's pretty much what I meant. Way more people and a much larger military. I'm sure most Canadians are great shots. And like you said, out of necessity. No room for error when your survival's at stake. So going by ratio and not sheer numbers, your probably correct now that I think about it.
Canadians hold #2 and #3 longest confirmed kills. On your list they held #3 and #4. Sorry I don't count unknown soldiers. Also on your list the US holds two. One was the all time best sniper for 35 years, Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock. AKA White Feather. 93 confirmed kills, one at 2,286 m (2,500 yd). The UK holds the record for the longest kill by Craig Harrison at 2,475 m (2,707 yd).
I always admired Simo Hayha, the Finnish sniper who killed 505 Russians, "Probably more" in less than 100 days during the winter war of 1939-40. And this in subzero temperatures at a time when there was about 7 hours of daylight. And he only used iron sights so the glare of the snow off the scope would not give away his position. The Russians put a big price on his head but never got him, although he did get his jaw about shot off. Look him up if you haven't heard of him. The "White Death". The Finns are some tough customers. They're the only country that the Russians could not vanquish after WW2. Only 3 million people at the time but the mighty red army gave up trying. They would die to the last man, woman and child before they would give up to communism.
...why would you have to copy the entire Cuban government to learn from their health care system? Aside from the fact that that logic makes no sense, you can learn from certain aspects of a government without making a carbon copy of the entire thing, there are dozens of other countries that have significantly better health care systems than the US, and they're also better than the US in every other way, to copy.
If the US government decides to establish martial law, a gun's not going to jack squat for you. Have you seen what the police are capable of when black people peacefully protest unlawful shootings of unarmed black people? Imagine what they'd do to people with guns. And you're much more likely to accidentally shoot someone you love, or get shot by someone you love, than stop a bear from attacking them. Fun fact: people with guns are more likely to die during a home invasion than people who don't have guns.
I don't care if you want to feel safe. I want to actually be safe. And guns make everybody less safe.
Gun ban, yes or no?

Thats fine, but how do we restrict access to those unfit to carry without infringing upon the rights of those who are fit to carry?

We have enough laws in place now. Enforce the ones we have. Start treating the mentally ill instead of hiding it.

Btw, Canadian snipers have made 3 of the top 4 shots in history. http://www.wideopenspaces.com/7-longest-sniper-shots-time-pics/
