I think a lot of Jerks wear the mask of "nice" guy, and when they feel they've won the girl, they show their true self, except the girl thinks its just a phase, the nice guy is still there and so she tries to find it again. That's why i think girls stay with jerks for a long time , they still hope the jerk will turn back to what he was first, they didn't realize it was all an act until much later.
