My friend is in a similar situation except that her boyfriend lives SIX hours away from us. They were dating for a year before they had to go long-distance (for college, just like you and your guy), and they have been successfully together, long-distance, for two years.
Yes, my friend gets very sad when she hasn't seen him in person in a couple of weeks, and yes, sometimes she worries that he will cheat (and the same goes for him!), but so far they are still loyal and, overall, happy.
I think the thing to remember is that relationships are work even when you see the other person every day. It may be easier or harder as a long-distance couple, and the odds are against you, but nothing is impossible.
