From k-12 i almost never ate tuck-shop at school and i'm thankful for it

I used to envy other kids who got it but now I'm thankful my mum always packed a healthy lunch consisting of a sandwich, fruit, drink and maybe nuts or a homemade biscuit, so I could continue that habit myself.

Some people thought my family were rich, as we were fortunate enough to travel overseas (to visit relatives) sometimes, but we were just average income folks with a mother who is very wise with expenditure and a dad who works hard. We wouldn't spend on something we didn't need. When going to theme parks, we would always pack our own food and maybe eat there once or twice at most out of three days. We didn't buy a new phone every time it came out and rush to buy every fashion trend.

I was very blessed that I was born to parents who only use alcohol for cooking and at most a tsp of bailey's cream in coffee albeit, once in a blue moon. They invested in our education instead of guzzling income on empty entertainment. We don't eat out much, so even when I studied overseas I also would seldom eat out, usually preferring to cook my own food and reserve eating out for a planned experience to be enjoyed with others.

I'm thankful for the values instilled by my family, but I don't know how normal it is in today's society after listening to various testimonies.

When I was a kid, my family hardly went out to eat either,as my parents always had healthy meals for us. We only went out to eat on our birthdays. I got the hot lunch in school. As an adult, I go out to eat a lot, though.

It's nice to hear someone say something kind about their family. My family was the same way, aside from traveling. We never ate fast food and my dad always bagged my lunch with a smiley face on it. I got my ass beat frequently, as did my siblings. But even that, I feel, makes me the person I am today.

I don't think you've listened to a thing anyone has ever told you, hans.
