Friend gaining a lot of weight?

Mkay one of my BEST friends is always complaining to me about how she has gained weight since birth control..and I want to know, do you think its really birth control doing it or no?

She claims she feels hungry more often and that the first month on birth control she gained 3 pounds.

She started at 100 pounds at 5'5 (underweight) and now 3.5 years later, she is 139 pounds(healthy weight). Was this the birth control or not? She was NEVER above 105 pounds in her entire life.

Just wondering, thanks.

Is It Normal?

  • I'm guessing that she's still a teen, and in that case, I think that it was probably normal hormonal changes that triggered her appetite and not the birth control. However, the birth control could have had a minimal effect when she first started taking it, but her body would have become accustom to it after the first month. The majority of girls will go through this (weight-gain) before they hit their mid-twenties. At least your friend is a healthier weight now, and hopefully she is active so that she doesn't continue to gain.

  • Yes I have heard that birth control make you gain weight. Reason I know is this often seems to be a listed side effect in commercials and I know many women on it. Which complain about the issues of weight gain because of it.

  • sounds like she is still under weight, I was 145 in highschool 5'6 and my doctor was always having me admitted to the hospital for being too thin.... So Its a good thing she sounds healthy.
