It's not OK that he's doing it because he's white and you're black. It's that old deal with why it's OK for blacks to call each other the n word but not whites. You know that you're definately not insulting someone by calling someone what you are yourself. But when you call someone something that you aren't, you may still not be insulting them but there's also a chance you might be so it's a riskier move. The fact that the white guy is friends with you though means that he most likely does not have a problem with being friends with someone of color, so he probably doesn't mean any harm and he is calling you the n word in a teasing way, although it's a risky thing to tease about even though he has no bad intentions.
But since you have said it's starting to bother you, you need to tell him that, and if he doesn't respect that wish, then he is being a prick and you need to find another friend. Also, make sure he never says the n word out loud when you are around any of your black friends or family or then he's really asking for trouble.
