Free yourself from punctuation rules

You don't have to put a period at the end of a sentence when it's clear your sentence is done. You don't have to capitalize anything or to use an apostrophe unless it makes the meaning confusing. You only need the punctuation that makes the meaning clear and comfort the reader. Also it's fine to write things the way you say them.

  • It just bugs me to not use punctuation. It doesn't make a huge difference if other people don't as long as it's still readable, but I prefer to use it.

I do mostly write the way I speak and one thing about my writing is that it's just me pouring out my thoughts onto paper (or in the case of the Internet, typing it out).

    • I see. I meant spelling things the way you say them.

      • Spelling is one of my things I am a bit perfectionist about, so for me, I like to spell them correctly (though spelling is also one of the things I am naturally good at, so it comes easily to me and is just habit at this point). If I'm reading something by someone else, as long as I can understand what they're saying and it isn't butchered beyond recognition, it's not a big deal. With autocorrect these days, it makes it much easier as well.

        • Yea, I meant like typing "lemme" instead of "let me" and stuff like this.

  • Well, some of us don't want to betray the years spent learning English in school.

  • "You only need the punctuation that makes the meaning clear and comfort the reader."

Would be more comfortable if you used comfortable in place of comfort.

"...comfortable the reader" is much better!

  • As someone who tried to make a conlang that has sentences being a single word as opposed to a series of words separated by spaces, I can tell you that punctuation is very important for the ease of use of a language.

    • Some people will point out your lack of punctuation as if it meant you're not educated.

  • Writing things the way you say them is natural. I've never been bothered by that. Please at least use end punctuation. That's simple.
