For type i diabetics: is it normal to feel anxious when you are having a low b

Is it normal to feel anxious when I have a low blood sugar? I also feel like I am incapable of doing normal everday things. Also I feel that I am losing my ability to function (I forget a lot of things now). So do any other of you diabetics get this or is it just me? PS I have only had diabetes for 6 years and my A1C average is 7.0

  • Not sure what kind of pills the above poster is talking about. Type 1 diabetics don't take pills. I really hate when people try to tell me what I can and can't eat and then I am like, I am type 1 not type 2. Ok back on topic. I think it totally normal to feel anxious or uncomfortable with lows. That's why you try to avoid them. And yes, lows are a fact of life for type 1s. Random crazy blood sugars just happen. It's not a perfect science. Now I personally feel downright normal when my sugars are good so you might want to talk to your doctor about the memory issues. Do you have a pump? It has really helped me by giving me the freedom an flexibility to live my life. What makes you feel like you can't function?

    • the "pills" are actually called glucose tablets and the reason why they tell you that is because are really high in carbs which with enough can send you sky high even with alot of insulin<BR><BR>yes this is normal. ive had type 1 for ten years goin onto my 11 year<BR><BR>just like lucylu said sometimes i feel "drunk" when im low and middy2k10 it is typical to feel like that one time i nearly passed out from being really low. i literally could not walk because if i even attempted to walk my knees would buckle from being so weak from the low blood sugar. luckily my neighbor saw me and carried me home (i was playing baseball with his son.)

  • I am a type 1 diabetic on insulin injection... I take roughly 5 needles daily, one for morning, lunch, dinner, bedtime, and usually an extra to keep my blood sugars in line. I have had diabetes for 6 years now and I really don't feel that it is slowing me down, yet... I work out everyday lifting weights and have been for two years now. I am not over weight. I weigh 175 pounds at 5ft 8 in. at 9% body fat. I visit my doctor every 8 months for an extensive check up on my health.

The only time I have issues with diabetes are when my blood sugar is at or below 3.5 mmol. I rarely have a blood sugar out of the range of 4.0>9.5mmol

I find that I get nervous and sick. My vision turns strange, a blackish haze is how I can describe it. I just want to know if any other diabetic gets strange symptoms like these.

I am completing grade 12 right now and these strange occurrences frighten me during class!!!!! It doesn't help that the teachers don't understand that I cannot focus with a low or a high blood sugar, so they generally give me grief about leaving class to fix it.

Hopefully this better describes what is going on for some feed about about if it is normal!!!!!!!

  • U must not be takin ur insulin or tables propley. The reason why u feel like u cnt b botherd doing anything is because ur dose of insulin/tablets are wrong. My advice is visit ur doc.

  • I have it. I think it's just different for everyone. I get very silly, like I'm drunk, when I have a low bloodsugar. My friend who also has type one gets very angry.

  • I do not have diabetes. But a good friend of mine does. She is a great soccer player and will get into college because of it. Her blood sugar gets low a lot. She doesn't even seem to care unless it's gets in the way of a game. Don't feel like u can't do anything. U can. And I know itcan be scary even for me just watching her is scary. Of course it sucks when ur blood sugar is low. Jut make sure u do eerything u can stabilize it. But do live ur life. Don't let this ruin the fun stuff please. U can still take care of yourself and go out and do stuff. I'm sure u havefriends and family who care for u and don't wanna see u unhappy or sick. And I'm sure u wouldn't wanna miss out on things because of this. Go out and live haha
