Flies or mosquitoes, which do you hate more?

  • Around here, we have lots of biting flies. I think he's talking about "black flies"[simulium ___] because their bites itch for a long time, so that'd be comparable to mosquitoes.

    The other biting flies we have include horseflies [hybomitra___}, deerflies [chrysops ___], green bottle flies [lucilia___], and greenflies [tabanus nigrovittatus]. These bugs, especially horseflies, can take huge gouges out of you, and they hurt way more than a wasp sting, which is saying something, considering none of the flies have neurotoxic venom. I find deerfly bites tend to swell more. Greenflies are the most persistent in biting you. They attack you at the beach. As for as I know, houseflies and blue bottle flies don't bite humans.

    I don't think we get botfly [oestridae] species around here. Unless you meant botfly as a synonym for tiny UAV drones... The future is nigh!!
