Fish fat?

OK so I've been watching the Blue Planet, the nature program with David Attenborough and I've never noticed before, why are there no fat fish, none are overweight or underweight either. Do they eat just the right amount or are they never greedy, does a shark every think I'm full but I want another octopus but I don't give a shit if I get fat. Are they calorie conscious or vain even? Whatcha think?

Haven't you noticed that applies to all creatures in their natural state? Birds, reptiles, animals, fish, insects and also humans aren't overweight either.

What she said. While there are many animals that don't store fat at all, plenty do. Most are just not porky because they've developed the right metabolism for their environmental needs.

How do you know that the fish are not fat? That is just your interpretation of what you think a thin fish looks like. Perhaps they are all extremely overweight and that makes them appear normal.

Fish aren't obese because, like all animals in the wild, they have to work for their next meal. That's an inherently risky business (predators tend to hang out in places where other animals come to feed), and animals expend energy looking for food only when they're hungry.

Through history, wealthy people have always tended to be chubby since they've had relatively easy access to high-calorie food, while those who had to work for a living have tended to be lean.

What we see around us now is the result of high-calorie food being very cheap, available just about everywhere, and all sorts of psychological trickery being used to persuade us to eat more. Basically, we're just not well-adapted to the environment we've created for ourselves.
