Feel guilty about getting 1200 from the government

I feel bad about receiving this from them for some reason. Anyone else feel this way? Doesn't seem right even though I understand the reason for it.

Is It Normal?

  • Sounds like you’re a true American who likes to work and don’t want hand outs. Bravo. Just think of all the nations who wouldn’t lift a finger

  • If you don't want the check then donate it to charity in which you believe strongly.

...or you could send it to my broke ass. Just kidding.

  • Guilt is a lame construct that you were conditioned against your will to feel when you were a child incapable of saying no to indoctrination. It isn’t real.

  • So pass all or some of it on to somebody or some organisation you believe deserves some help.

You didn't get the money because your government feels sorry for you in this difficult time - in fact, nobody in power gives a shit about people who qualify for the full amount. You got it so you can spend it and help keep the wheels of capitalism grinding along now that the economy is on the verge of a depression. So play your allotted role as a properly functioning little cog in the machine, and go buy some crap that you don't actually need and don't really want all that much.

    • I actually earn a lot more than the adjusted gross income requirement for the 1200 so it's weird that I got the full amount. Won't make any difference in my life at all.

      • Then find someone who it would make a difference for and give it to them.

      • If you're certain you shouldn't have got the full amount and you don't need the money, then I'd suggest you consider transferring it to a savings account.

If there are glitches in the assessment algorithm - and it wouldn't be surprising if there were, given the present chaos - it's possible an audit later on might discover lots of people got the money when they shouldn't have, and they'll get a demand to repay it.

        • The ones who are not suppose to get one are those who are not US citizens, like the illegals and also those here on a work permit. Anyone under 18 doesn't get one. Also if someone owes back child support, they may not get one or get reduced amount. Yeah, the USA is horse shit about collecting back child support.

Also anyone who has $75,000 or more per year income will get a reduced amount. I think it is reduced $5 for each $100 they make over $75,000.

In my case, none of that applies. I do not know why the OP should feel guilty.
