For the past 18 years, my family has never been close.
My dad and I hardly ever talk and when we do, it's about school. The most I've ever talked to him was about a week throughout my whole life.
My parents never got along--they always get into fights and they've been to jail a few times. Sometimes I would see my dad like once a week or maybe once a month.
My brother--we haven't hanged out since i was in elementary [ I'm a senior in high school ] & the last conversation we had was about a few months ago.
My mother-- the most I talk to, but usually we would argue and she would usually lecture me about college/life/jobs/boys/God. But I know my mom just wants me to be successful even if sometimes she makes no sense at all. Our family never says I Love You or make any kind gestures. I know most people have family problems, but Is this normal?

I sound so desperate/ego for saying all that, but I'm just curious.

Is It Normal?

    Thats really sad. Im your age (18 right?) Im from the UK so we dont do the whole 'highschool' thing but im going to university next October so im guessing yes. Thats really hard for you. I guess you're just looking for opinions, and i would say that it may be something that occurs in, i dunno, 20% of families? Maybe less extreme? but that doesnt mean its right. If you wanted to sort it out, id go with talking to your brother (he's younger than you?) your mum- its her responsability to realise the pressure she puts on you and thats really unfair- but your in college next year so you'll get away from that. Im not that close to my dad either, we dont really talk about stuff outside money, school, future and occasionally music and family stuff, but nothing like personal or important to me. However, i'm really close to my bro and if you can mannage that before you go to college, that really would be something. However, its just my opinion and you may think its totally shit and you're completely entitled to think that! Hope it all works out in the end, you can make a better family for yourself in the future anyway :)

    u have a family who is generally unhappy with their decisions and u care enough 2 c others opinions and ppl like u either become ppl but those that will fight it became some of the most well known ppl and go on 2 do great things hang in there
