Exhausted 24/7

Is it normal to be tired ALL the time? I mean downright EXHAUSTED. It doesn't seem to matter how much sleep I get... 1 hour to 15 hours, it's all the same result - TIRED. I wish I wasn't so tired all the time. I fall asleep everywhere, which is really annoying. I have to drink energy drinks every day, especially while at work. I also have trouble staying awake while driving, which is one of the reasons why I taek the bus. Does anyone else have this problem? Not something new either... been like this for at least 15 years :(

There are countless possibilities, you'll need to see a doctor.

If narcolepsy rings a bell, also try looking up sleep apnea. A very close friend went undiagnosed until she was 26 because she doesn't exhibit the traditional symptom of snoring.

Your doctor will likely send you to a sleep clinic where you will be wired up with electrodes and then asked to go to sleep. Apparently the process generally sucks, but finding out what is happening with your body, and finding a solution will be well worth it. These studies will help to diagnose a range of sleep disorders.

If it's not sleep related it could be any of a multitude of vitamin or mineral deficiencies which can be diagnosed with a blood test.

Or, for extra fun it could be a combination of factors. With problems that have gone on for a number of years things tend to cause other things... It could take awhile to untangle, but it will be worth it. Remember to mention everything, every symptom, bodily inconvenience etc to your doctor. Write them down. Something seemingly unrelated like heartburn, or leg pain could be very important in figuring out all of what is going on.

Wow, thanks for the advice and for that link. I think it's very possible that I have a mild case of narcolepsy. I'll have to ask my doctor about it when I see her next. I have pretty much been like this for 15 years, though sometimes I'm not as tired, but that is rare. I really hate being like this. It's very frustrating. Thanks again for your help!

I get like this sometimes. It can be delibitating. 15 years is an awful long time :/
Maybe you should look into narcolepsy. Google it and see it you match the symptoms. It's a sleeping disorder. I know that one of the symptoms is "excessive daytime sleepiness."

Also, you could try going on a hypoglycemic diet. It's where you cut out all refined sugars. You feel crappy at first, but afterwards, your blood sugar levels even out and you feel much better. I've found that it's helped with my excessive tiredness a lot. Go here for more info on how to go about it: http://ehealthforum.com/health/topic119108.html

    Good luck and take care!
