A couple of weeks ago, I was on a two-hour long ferry ride. Passengers had the choice of sitting indoors or they could go outside and walk around. My boyfriend and I sat inside in front of these huge windows that looked out onto the main deck and beyond that, the ocean. The windows had that UV film on them that's reflective, so naturally people outside would look into them like they are mirrors and they couldn't see us peering back at them.
During an hour of people watching from this amazing vantage point, we noticed a pattern: Only younger people (16-35ish) would check themselves out, and sometimes older women who obviously hadn't come to terms with the fact that they are not young anymore. We could predict will almost 100% accuracy who would look and who wouldn't based solely on what the person looked like.
Why are young people so narcissistic?
