The concept is that a traditional racial group with power over a different group made a goof of or disrespected tendencies and later embraced or adapted said traditions/practices.

Embracing, respecting, learning, and ultimately championing other cultures is the cornerstone of humanity's growth and development.

One can say, "this-group-took-from-that-group" with a negative perspective forever, and never really appreciate the wealth of knowledge we as humans can use to grow.

My school did the hairspray musical but since we were such a white school we had to put a trigger warning that some of our actors are going to use some of the speech patterns of someone from the ghetto.
