Ever witness or be a victim of verbal/physical abuse?

Just a question I had for you all. If you’ve ever been the victim of verbal or physical abuse or have witnessed it: whether it was to a sibling, your mother, aunts/uncles, grandparents, someone at school, someone at work, etc. I’d like to keep this a mature post please. I realize this can go both ways regarding genders. Women can be just as emotionally and verbally abusive to the men in their lives

Has anyone ever witnessed their fathers hurting their mothers either emotionally or physically? I absolutely despise my father for this

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Nah, for me it was my mother abusing everyone in the household. Either way, it sucks and nobody could really blame you for despising your father for this.

  • Back in the 90s we lived next door to a rowdy couple who were always fighting. It's debateable whether it was even "abuse" by one against the other, given they seemed equally matched. They even fought out in the street the one time and she (somehow) managed to kick a window in his white van through, before throwing her engagement ring at him.

Then another time we heard them arguing at night, and she screamed "you've been screwing her next door!!". My parents looked at eachother and just laughed.

  • Sounds like my family! My dad is a piece of shit to my mom, but I don't like her either. No matter, the violence isn't justified. I can't do anything about it. So, I have dumped my parents. Actually, I have no contact with anyone in my family. I despise mistreatment of others. I have had a habit in the past of bluntly addressing bullies. I just won't put up with that shit because, as a kid, it reminded me of my shit dad's behavior.

  • Yes. My adoptive mother just told me recently that my birth father beat and raped my birth mother. And according to all my therapists I menifest so many symptoms that it’s likely he molested me as well, even though I don’t directly remember anything from that young. I hate myself and I want to die.

      • I have children and they don't deserve to hear the things he would say and see the things he did.

        • No they definitely don’t. even though we’re strangers, I’m proud of you for getting away and doing the best thing for your kids. You’re a good mother!

  • School is the # 1 breeding ground for abuse, teachers and students alike.

  • Yes. I witnessed my father emotionally abusing my mother. Had he not gotten sick, apologized, and then died, I would've voted currently.

    • I’m sorry you had to go through that, and I am very sorry for your loss. Sometimes we just have to ask ourselves how these people who are abusive were raised themselves. It can sometimes be the only thing they know

      • I know that my dad had some issues when he was younger. I was, and am able to be understanding of that, even though it doesn't excuse everything.

There's no need to be sorry for my loss, or really my immediate family's, because we might just be better off now.

I feel bad for him for his own sake. He went through a lot, both physically and with mental guilt.

  • RedLibby, that's the "spare the rod and spoil the child" nonsense. You can tell the difference if someone is sadistic or they truly think that they're doing this punishment for your own good, however backwards it may be. It's still dumb. Without bothering to list all sorts of cited research as evidence, just believe me. But you can use Google Scholar to find out I'm right. There's a good reason some countries have made such punishment options illegal.

Yep... 42 countries banned corporal punishment http://untribune.com/42-countries-banned-corporal-punishment/

Wait wait, more countries (52 of them) made it illegal -->
