I have seen and been a part of a lot of sad things on this planet. I know there is a lot of selfishness and suffering.
But these are *precisely* the things that make the wonderful parts of life so heart-stoppingly amazing. Even if it's small, and not of huge cosmic consequence... seeing a child share some sweets, watching a couple in love, hearing an uplifting story -
Love and selflessness and the most beautiful things are all around us. They may not always be the loudest and brightest things we see (lots of times what sticks out are the rare events, because they are bad we notice them more). Every day, world-wide there are amazing acts of passion, kindness, love, and self-sacrifice.
The human race will always have self-centered acts and evil in it, but considering the awesomely profound goodness that exists as well? I'd say it's a fair trade.
Ever lost hope in humanity as a whole?
