Emotional attachments to items

when i think of the future, it's scary knowing that i won't always have the same possessions. whenever i buy new clothing i always second guess myself because it won't be with me forever. owning things depresses me. does anybody else experience something similar?

That's understandable, but you need to get over it.

Everything you see will one day fade. The person you are today is not the same as the person you were yesterday. Nothing will be with you forever, not even you. We are all constructs of time. When the universe ends in heat death, there will be nothing and nobody left to remember you and the clothes on your back. You're not gonna get far if you can't accept this. After all, the entire concept of *possessing* something is only an imaginary construct.

The best way to get over your fears is to confront them. Get one of the old shirts you've been hoarding. Take it outside, and set it on fire. Kick the ashes into the wind. Stop for a moment and think about it. Then take all the other items you don't need anymore, and donate them. Everyone has irrational fears sometimes. But we have to learn to fight them.

I voted No because I was raised that it was normal to accept entropy. Your clothing will change as you change. Also, fabric wears out. It's okay to accept the new shirt.
It does sound like you have something going on with the emotional attachment of not wanting to let go of things. What is the emotion the things bring you? Or is just the idea of the future loss? Get down to the heart of the matter. Find a Positive Emotion. Use that to light and contrast the negative emotions. Spelunk into the heart of the matter.
If you need to declutter? Do so.
If you need to go minimalist? Do so.
If you need to invest in stone, metal, and other items that will outlast you? Do so.
Take care of yourself and know yourself.

You should try a minimalist way of life. Only having what you need. Easier said than done though.

It's not good to place too much focus on material things, but on the other hand you could try hoarding if throwing things away is stressful to you. Your average person doesn't realize how much stuff they actually have storage space for.
