Where are all the comments about Biden and the Afghanistan debacle.

Those at both ends of the political spectrum can easily score political points to try to own the opposite side about Afghanistan. Every American administration since the start of the mess deserves some share of the blame.

Personally, I don't really give a damn if the USA wants to keep dumping piles of money into a country where corruption is a way of life, and nor do I care if the USA wants to keep sending soldiers off to get killed and maimed in a war that is simply unwinnable.

But any rational American who cares about where their tax dollars go, who cares about American service people and who isn't mainly interested in owning the political opposition should be able to accept that the war was unwinnable. Hell, even Trump understood that, and it's flattering him to call his grasp of global politics sketchy. It was always delusional to believe that Afghanistan could become a miniature version of the USA. That's just not something the majority of Afghans wanted. It's a society that's still stuck in a mindset where tribal loyalties count for a lot more than national identity, and the majority of people adhere to a religion with values that Western culture started moving beyond at the end of Mediaeval times.

It's easy to say that the withdrawal could have been handled better, but that has as much value as any Monday morning quarterbacking. Once the Taliban saw their chance, they pushed, the Afghan army that America and its allies had spent so much time and money on folded, and that was that. Once the Taliban started pushing, the only thing that could have stopped them was a huge influx of American boots on the ground to stand the ground the Afghans didn't care to defend. Apart from that being very challenging in logistical terms - if not impossible - that move would have taken the USA right back to where it was during the worst of the conflict, the sunk cost fallacy would come into play, and withdrawal would become even more painful to contemplate.

Afganistan was totally gonna fail. I think everyone agrees on that point. What we now need to all agree on is who fucked it up the worst.

Trump believe it or not was probably the least damaging president for our predicament in afganistan. He wanted to get out in an even sooner timeframe than biden. He would have also done it with less problems than biden did because he wasnt a fool when it came to listening to his advisors.

Someone has to be responsible for this fuck up. If it wasnt biden than give us the general who was in charge. Fucking up that badly internationally deserves to have repercussions for the higher ups.

There's actually a lot of evidence suggesting Republicans, Democrats, and Independents ALL think it was a poor decision. Or at least handled badly. My initial gut reaction was that it was good (As my previous statement on it showed.) but it seems as if most agree it was handled poorly.

Notably, Obama, Trump, and Biden all handled Afghanistan terribly.

I dont think trump handled it poorly per say. Heck I think he handled it the best compared to bidens big fuck up. Trump wanted to be out by may. Not only did biden take longer, but somehow did a worst job than projected.

So since you don't mention the George Bush administration, I take it you believe his decisions on Afghanistan were all great?

No, I'm just too young to have an accurate memory of the Bush administration so I opted to leave it out.

I've said it before any war that last more than a few months to a few years is doomed to failure. If it lasts that long it has become a political war and any end was going to be a repeat of Russia- Afghanistan or USA- Vietnam. Egg on the face for those that have to pull out and go home as well as a disaster for the people of country.

I personally don't feel that bad if they left all afghan people behind. They had a choice for twenty years 200,000 or more that want to leave could have mounted a sufficient force to protect themselves.

The only thing they are united about is wanting somebody to come in and give them a good life or take them out of there and owe them a good life.

I agree with LA in the failure to support, however after twenty years they should and could have had supplies built up and a resupply channel established that did not depend on someone helping them.

The president of Afghanistan knew what was coming. He took as much money as he could and ran. He wasn't as stupid as Biden, the US troops should have been right in front of the afghan president with an even bigger pile of money.

You can blame who you want for this mess and how long it lasted. The initial reasoning may have been justified but the US people need to point their fingers at themselves for allowing it to become a political war and not having the stomach to actually conduct a full fledged war.

Where is the world screaming about the number of women and children killed just the other day. You don't hear it, what you hear is "we knew it was going to happen, we told you so".

Biden, US, response take out one IS leader, weak at best, if that's not fake news.
Hell the UN should take it, grow some balls, and wipe the whole bunch that support terrorism, wipe them off the map.

Back to the point. No matter what you think or thought of the war the pull out is all on Biden.
The end result may have been the same if it was Obama or Trump but you'll never know if they could or would have managed it better. Maybe that's why they didn't do it, but that may have been their smart choice.

I heard Biden try to blame Trump by saying the reason no US service members have been killed for the last year of the Trump presidency was because he told them the US would pull out by May, so why didn't Biden make the same deal just tell them because of the change in leadership it will take a few more months. He had eight months on his watch to get a plan and act on it. His debacle! 200 dead by his hand including the 13 service members!

Truly don't care. Give them a few years and they'll figure out why we left them behind. I've never served myself but from what I hear even forgetting your own rifle is a badd idea. No way they left anything of quality behind. Most likely all that gear is on its last limbs

Trump wanted out in May and Biden extended it. I still think it was the right move to leave but Obama and Trump did not sufficiently train the Afghan military or it was a lost cause by spending the money on those idiots.

The Afghans wanted to fight but biden pulled their air support and US backup. Then a few Afghans surrendered after running out of ammo and then were all shot. So yeah biden pretty much screwed over everyone in Afghanistan and helped the Taliban do a full take over and acquiring good weapons and equipment that they will most likely sell to china and russia so they can reverse engineer it.
