  • I thought everyone knew that supermarkets etc throw out tons and tons of perfectly good food, either because it's a day over the use by date or in the case of fruit/vegies some little mark which doesn't affect anything except appearance.

In Australia there are organizations which collect this food and re-distribute it to needy people.

Your hair dye story is totally irrelevant to the original request: chemicals could deteriorate and become dangerous but you can usually tell if there's something wrong with food just by looking at it, smelling it or tasting a little bit.

    • Be careful, had a manager who would poison the food she threw out just so people would get sick if they ate it. I thought it was a messed-up thing to do but she was kind of a bitch.

      • I'm flabbergasted that anyone would be so nasty! And sorry I wasn't clearer, see reply above about the organisations who distribute food supermarkets would otherwise chuck in dumpsters

        • Why you flabbergasted? White folks exterminate aborigines. They exterminate poor black folk too.

    • The Australian redistribution organizations are irrelevant as well.

      • Well not irrelevant as a good idea which cd be adopted in other places who haven't heard of it. I should've been clearer too, they don't give out food from dumpsters but food which would've gone into the dumpsters - they establish relationships with supermarkets etc who let them have the food which would otherwise end up in landfill
