  • Considering the circumstances deadly force could of been justified. He broke free from custody and jumped into his vehicle and tried (and later fled) though he was just shot. Due process until a verdict is carried out but those rioters are now shooting at national guard.

    • I have a brother who spent his career in law enforcement... He has no idea why Police these days are shooting so many people.

He never felt authorized to shoot someone fleeing or walking away from him.

I believe you have the wrong standard...

      • Yes but jumping into a car isnt just for driving they might be grabbing a firearm or weapon. A weapon that he was ILLEGALLY possessing and was known to have. I hope your brother doesnt make that fatal mistake that someone running away might be running towards acquiring a weapon or using a weapon they might have. Not saying daunte had a weapon but the perception that he was jumping into the care could reasonably suggest that he could be A. Trying to escape or B. Trying to grab a weapon that he was known to possess.

It was still an unjustified shooting. Just saying that someone jumping into a car has more than one option than just speeding away.

Your brother would hopefully never run into a situation where the suspect will leap into their car. It's not the same as someone plainly running away.

        • She accidentally used her gun because she was an idiot cop. You could tell she was shocked when it fired. Shes gonna go to prison its not like she was patted on the back. But he put himself in that situation by living a life of crime. I woulda just went to jail.

        • Your jumping to conclusions before there is any evidence to support them.

Deadly, or potentially deadly force, is only justified if the officer or another party is in IMMINENT danger of physical harm.

Not - is possibly in danger if someone does something they have not yet done. You have to actually wait until they make motions to indicate that they are indeed going to attack you or in some cases another party.

Someone fleeing does not present imminent harm to anyone.

You get a F- on this one.

Why not spend some of your time reading up on the legalities and rights and responsibilities involved (and every right has at least one responsibility that goes along with it).

          • It doesn't matter on WHAT the suspect is grabbing. But quickly moving towards SOMETHING looks a hell of alot like grabbing for a weapon. I dont care about the daunte case. Just saying that if you are a perceived threat you will be taken as a threat.

            • Of course it matters.

Being an enforcement officer is not easy.. and there are training classes for what is and what is not a shooting situation given under stress situations. Unfortunately, few law enforcement agencies use such training and fewer yet sideline officers who fail such training. That's where the problem is most of the time in my opinion.

You cannot shoot someone not facing you and reaching for just anything (like maybe they are reaching for the car keys).

It's a tough job, and not meant for everyone.

There is a reason that most police wear body armor... as it gives them a real chance to survive if they judge the situation wrong in that split second they have to react.

But, again the legal standard used to be that you could only shoot if you were in imminent danger of attack - or other innocent parties were. I assure you that is the legal standard you and I will be held to in the event that we are involved in a shooting with the possible exception of a home invasion where many states have relaxed the requirement and allow shooting in defense of the home.

            • Same thing happened in Nashville 2 weeks ago. A bitch jumped in her car and shot the cop after he was very kind to her but he found cocaine. The video is online. It happened very quickly. Thankfully the officer pumped her full of lead and she died. But he was shot and almost died as well.
