Duante was wanted for armed robbery

He was wanted for sticking a gun to a womens head and told her she was gonna die if she didnt give him her money. Why do people care that he was shot? He was a piece of shit. He was obviously a very dangerous person and hardly worthy of being used as a martyr

Well, we are supposed to have due process in the US. You can "not give a shit" about the individual that was killed all day long but you should be PISSED that due process is being taken away. If we are ok with cops being judge, jury and executioner then don't be upset if it happens to you, your family member, friend or neighbor next.

    • I think the cop made a mistake but its one of those darwinism things. Id never run from the police because I would just assume they will shoot me. I didnt make the rules. But welcome to the real world.

Cops shouldn't be shooting -most- people for running. Period. That you think it's a normal assumption that they would or should is a problem.

It's also easy to say "oh, I'd just do xyz...". Until you're in that situation, you never know. Sometimes cops bust in doors or come out of nowhere and you don't even know what's happening until it's done. There's even stories of people having medical emergencies while driving and cops crashing them and ripping them out of their car as if they're drunk. People wearing headphones that cannot hear the cops orders, cop gets aggressive and violent. Or mistaken identity. So many things can easily happen to anyone, unexpectedly even. Cops need to be held accountable. They need to be better trained. The way it is, is unacceptable.

        • See thats the thing, if it was some innocent man that was wearing headphones that they shot I would be right there with you and id be very upset. I dont like innocent people being harrassed by police. Id even be upset if these criminals did not resist and were killed. But these people are terrible people who were resisting arrest and put themselves in a dumb situation for them to be killed. If george floyd just cooperated he'd be alive. But he wanted to throw a huge pity party and some asshole cop killed him. If you see on the news that cops are killng ppl who are resisting why do you think resisting is a good idea? These are very stupid people and im not sad they are dead. George Floyd and Duante put guns to innocent peoples heads. They lived a life of crime. They died while being criminals.

Refer back to my first comment. Everyone is owed due process.

You're basically saying its fine for cops to be so violent because, hey, SOME of the people they kill or maim are bad guys. But even if they're bad guys, they still get due process. When you look the other way, you allow rights to be ignored and it doesn't stop with just the bad guys rights. It puts ALL of our rights in jeopardy. Supporting constitutional rights means sometimes you have to do the hard thing and not allow your personal feelings from getting in the way of seeing right from wrong here. Your rights and personal safety are on the line, too, so don't forget that. You, your family and your friends do not benefit from defending these cops or looking the other way when stuff like this happens. You only stand to lose. The sooner that clicks with you, the better.

Im not saying that at all. I just think you have to be a fuckin retard to get killed by police during a traffic stop. That takes incredible stupidity to pull off. The other day I was buying a grill and it had a fuckin warning on it "dont grill in your house" that label is for people lke Duante and George Floyd. I understand we want to make everything so stupid proof now but sometimes darwinism will prevail and the dumb ones wont make it.

Exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself. It's about being treated like everyone else instead of an animal which is how the "justice" system is supposed to work

What he did is irrelevant in the matter.

    You’re missing the point.

Duante wasn't a supporter of the justice system working or following the law. He wouldn't have Rob the lady, he would have turned his self in since there was a warrant for his arrest, he wouldn't have been driving with expired registration, he wouldn't have resisted arrest, he wouldn't have tried to escape. Long list of not caring about the law, hurting others, or caring about the justice system and doing what's right. He died the way he lived..

That said the cops did not take justice into their own hands. She admitted making a mistake she truly seemed surprised and upset in the video.
Unfortunately for Daunte they probably had their guns already out because he was known to have used a deadly weapon in the warrant. They would normally have their tazers at the ready for a nonthreatening, nondangerous situation. She should face punishment, not sure how severe, her accident did take a life but so did the car builder that fail to make sure their car was safe, the mechanic that failed to tighten the lug nuts or fix the brakes properly. Help us all if a mistake or accident is enough to crucify and end/ruin the life of someone. Even a deadly DUI, which I would argue has more negligence or irresponsibility doesn't carry that kind of career/life ending punishment.

  • In the morning, one of the women went to the bank to get her $820 rent money which she gave to the other woman and then left for work. As Wright, Driver and the second woman were leaving, Wright allegedly tried to hold up the woman. ‘The three of them were walking to the door to exit the apartment and defendant Wright turned around and blocked the door preventing victim from leaving,’ says the report, written by Osseo Police Officer Shane Mikkelson. Defendant Wright then pulled a black handgun with silver trim out from either his right waistband or his right coat pocket and pointed it at victim and demanded the rent money,’ continued Mikkelson. ‘Victim said “Are you serious?” Defendant Wright replied: “Give me the f**king money, I know you have it.” When the woman again asked him if he was serious, Wright is said to have replied: ‘I’m not playing around.’ Mikkelson’s report said: ‘The $820 cash was tucked in the victim’s bra and defendant Wright placed his hand around victim’s neck and choked her while trying to pull the cash from under her bra. ‘Victim was able to get loose from defendant Wright and started to kneel down and scream.’ After more yelling, Wright allegedly told the woman that he was going to shoot her unless he got the money. ‘Give me the money and we will leave,’ he allegedly said. ‘Give me the money and we will go.’ Mikkelson added: ‘Defendant Wright then tried to choke victim a second time and tried to take her money. Defendant Driver was telling her to give defendant Wright the money.’

What he was wanted for does not matter in this case.

The only thing that matters is:

    1) was it proper to plan to taser him after he broke free of the arresting officer? I'm not sure if that was proper or not.

    2) What were the reasons and mistakes made that led to the officer drawing their gun instead of the Taser. There are a variety of possible reasons for that (procedures, inadequate training on techniques, inadequate training in stress conditions, etc.).

The officers are not judge and jury. Their job is only to arrest, and to prevent someone from harming themselves and others if they can.

Considering the circumstances deadly force could of been justified. He broke free from custody and jumped into his vehicle and tried (and later fled) though he was just shot. Due process until a verdict is carried out but those rioters are now shooting at national guard.

I have a brother who spent his career in law enforcement... He has no idea why Police these days are shooting so many people.

He never felt authorized to shoot someone fleeing or walking away from him.

I believe you have the wrong standard...

Yes but jumping into a car isnt just for driving they might be grabbing a firearm or weapon. A weapon that he was ILLEGALLY possessing and was known to have. I hope your brother doesnt make that fatal mistake that someone running away might be running towards acquiring a weapon or using a weapon they might have. Not saying daunte had a weapon but the perception that he was jumping into the care could reasonably suggest that he could be A. Trying to escape or B. Trying to grab a weapon that he was known to possess.

It was still an unjustified shooting. Just saying that someone jumping into a car has more than one option than just speeding away.

Your brother would hopefully never run into a situation where the suspect will leap into their car. It's not the same as someone plainly running away.

She accidentally used her gun because she was an idiot cop. You could tell she was shocked when it fired. Shes gonna go to prison its not like she was patted on the back. But he put himself in that situation by living a life of crime. I woulda just went to jail.

Your jumping to conclusions before there is any evidence to support them.

Deadly, or potentially deadly force, is only justified if the officer or another party is in IMMINENT danger of physical harm.

Not - is possibly in danger if someone does something they have not yet done. You have to actually wait until they make motions to indicate that they are indeed going to attack you or in some cases another party.

Someone fleeing does not present imminent harm to anyone.

You get a F- on this one.

Why not spend some of your time reading up on the legalities and rights and responsibilities involved (and every right has at least one responsibility that goes along with it).

It doesn't matter on WHAT the suspect is grabbing. But quickly moving towards SOMETHING looks a hell of alot like grabbing for a weapon. I dont care about the daunte case. Just saying that if you are a perceived threat you will be taken as a threat.

No the cop still deserves to go to prison or at the very least be barred from policing. That being said I think we need to FUND the police more so we can replace these fuck ups with people who are trained to at least know that your pistol is on your dominant side.

BLM really needs to find better martyrs, they keep on picking the ones with the long crime records and drug users. Burning down businesses and throwing bricks through windows will just cause people to move out and screw the businesses that survive. Businesses perfer setting up in places were their investments dont have a risk of burning down because the attorney general let's arsonists and violent offenders off without bail/ without charge. The LA riots had a massive economic impact on the most effected areas. Ferguson still hasnt seen a recovery since the riots. Riots dont make an area better for its inhabitants.
