I'm in AA and have been sober for two years but I still answered "there is more than one way."
Whenever I like something, I feel the urge to convince other people that they should like it too. So I'd like to say "12-step is the best method" but, browsing the scientific literature, I couldn't find anything to support that claim
I do think that, when people are heavily into their addiction, the best thing to do is something - anything: psychotherapy, 12-stepping, meditation, medication, moderation, relocation, codependency, workaholism, marijuana, marriage, or straight-up white-knuckle abstinence. Obviously, some methods will work better than others. You just want to maintain a little hope that something - anything - will help you.
