I was in the same predicament 27 years ago, save for the fact that my drug of choice was Jack Daniels or Bombay Sapphire martinis. For what it is worth, I stopped drinking and availed myself of a program of recovery that has served me well since that time. I had stopped smoking some time before and that was much, much harder than stopping drinking.
