Double standards and racism

There is a movie titled “White men cant jump”.

This, most decidedly is based on a stereotype that white men are not as good at sports as black men.

If someone created a movie (based on a common stereotype) called “Black men can’t swim”, would it be accepted in the same manner?

Skin color has nothing to do with statistics 13
Whites are better 10
It’s a double standard 28
Blacks are better 4

  • White men can't jump because gravity is a law and we obey the law.

I see what you are saying, and I can appreciate your point of view, but the reason why your suggestion would come off as racist is because the reason why there's a stereotype that black people can't swim or that some people refer to blacks using the racist term non-swimmers is because of segregation. Black people were not allowed to join country clubs or to go to local pools in many places so they were deprived the opportunity to learn how to swim! This is why we should not forget our past!

I honestly haven't seen the movie White Men Can't Jump so I can't tell you how racist it is or isn't. However, to just say black men can't swim is kinda racist when you take into account the history of it all.

The movie White Men Can't Jump was written by a white guy.

    Lol this thread is great.

My 2cents, people are different. And I feel that it has gotten to the point where pointing out differences has become offensive instead of being a wonderful part of life. I don't see anything wrong with saying black people are gifted at playing sports. Nothing wrong with Asian people being gifted at academic achievement. Nothing wrong with Mexicans having some of the most intense value for family. Different cultures are good at different things. The movie was made just to get a response out of you because of the current socio-political climate and it worked.

    • The funny thing is.... I have never seen the movie. My only perception is the title.

Ooh. You're right. I was discussing it with both of you at the same time, so I suppose it was OP who said all that. I apologize! That was my fault. I must have mixed it up due to the same name color.

No problem I figured it was just an honest mistake

I think white liberals would be upset more than blacks, but you do have plenty of race obsessed blacks that would cry a river. How come that stereotype about black men is never complained about?

What kinda statistics are we talkin about

After so many years and black countries with excellent racist laws, it is only one group that complains regularly.

  • Don’t you know what “but” means?

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/stormcommentry.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/beforebut/amp/
(Anything said before “but” does not matter)

I’m going to re-phrase your comment and let the community decide if you’re racist.... after the “but”....

“”The reason why your suggestion would come off as racist is because the reason why there's a stereotype that white men cant jump or that some people refer to whites using the racist term non-jumpers is because of segregation. White people were not allowed to join country clubs or to go to local basketball courts in many places so they were deprived the opportunity to learn how to jump! This is why we should not forget our past!

I honestly haven't seen the movie Black men can’t swim so I can't tell you how racist it is or isn't. However, to just say white men cant jump is kinda racist when you take into account the history of it all.””

    Does this make sense?

Are you being intentionally stupid? No one was stopping white people from playing sports or anything like what black people had to deal with. That’s her point and why she said it’s racist givin the history. No one was depriving white people like they did and arguably still are blacks and other minority’s. Learn some history.

White people in the past weren't deprived? And you tell others to read history? Oh boy lol

        Are you sure about this?
From what I gather, you are perpetuating the reality/stereotype.

If you were a white child growing up in Africa, your disposition would be flip flopped entirely, would it not?

If I’m wrong show me. It’s just a historical fact that in America none white people were treated worse than white people

Wow, that makes a whole lot of sense.

Are you intentionally perpetuating a stereotype?

How is it a stereotype exactly? It’s a fact that black people were slaves in this country not white people. We had the Jim Crow laws. black people were attacked by the kkk not white people. these are facts and not the same as stereotypes.

That was a really poor argument on that site. It doesn't "define" the word or it's use, it gives one person's opinion.

The information she put before the "but" is not negated by what comes after. Someone trying to avoid a ball but still being hit doesn't negate the first part of the sentence.

      https://www.dictionary.com/browse/but

I didn't see any that worked for your "definition". Most og them would not work as sentences without the first half. The only one I can see it working for is "I'm sorry, but..." and that is not because of grammar.

If you're going to try to be a grammar nazi, at least do it well. All you've done here is make yourself look like an ignorant, self important twat.
