I had, as a teenager, this strange ability to be blind intoxicated on pretty much anything and yet get through my day without anyone knowing... or at least without making a total fool of myself. However, as an adult, I have almost completely stopped drinking because in the case of alcohol, the seeming functionality was an illusion. Alcohol is completely disabling. It literally shuts your brain off, one area at a time.
Cannabis, on the other hand, improves neural functioning due to augmentation of beneficial neurochemicals. I have to smoke cannabis every day just to keep my brain working right. Without it, I end up in the delightful "mechanical spiders are walking on the ceiling" mental state. Preferring lucidity to psychosis, I smoke. Sometimes a lot. But even when I actually get high (which is far from always) I'm still fully functional.
Although, if I use too much of either one, I fall asleep for a while. So either one, if taken to a great enough extreme, is ultimately disabling. It does depend on the strain, though. A fine Indica dominant strain like GDP will knock me out a lot faster than a strong Sativa dominant like Trainwreck.
Does weed or alcohol impair you more?
