does the world really care that I have a white girlfriend?

  • This is a great story and I can relate. My girlfriend is white Dutch and I am full Vietnamese. My girlfriend is intelligent, beautiful, and everything I ever wanted. Other asian females are always after me like, "what do you see in that white girl?" Or, "Why are you to shame your parents by being with her? Go with your own kind." Things like that. Or, they will even make comments in Vietnamese or talk about my girlfriend, thinking she doesn't understand. Luckily, my girlfriend is completely fluent in Vietnamese; so she not only understands what they are saying, she talks back to them-- which always shocks the hell out of them! At the same token, white men always ask her why she would want to be with an asian. Then they proceed on with the stereotypes about asian men; our penises, how we are controlling, abusive, workaholics, etc.

Either way, I think this constant abuse by outsiders only brings us closer together. We are able to see and realize those traits that brought us together, and really revel in that. If anything, it has enhanced everything for us. Because we are both hard-headed, people trying to get us apart just makes us want to be together even more. Haha! It sounds like you and your girl have the same unconditional love and respect for each other.

So, just hold your head high and let the outsiders keep guessing what your next move will be. While they are worrying about what you're doing, you keep living life to the fullest. They are the ones missing out.
