Does retirement money go forever and iin?

My friend plans to retire from the airforce at age 40 which is 20 years served . I was wondering if they will get their retirement money as long as they live or up until a certain age?

Also: is it normal if they dont plan on working ever again after 40?

    they get paid as long as they live. airforce pilots always retire this early cause of the health problems they have from the high G on their bodies during flights
