The problem with a lot of writers today is that they get an idea for a story before they have the facts, then when it's time to write the story, it's more important to them to stick to their wonderful ideas than it is to stick to the truth. I've seen this in the so-called news. If your intent is to be creative, what are you writing about actual events for? If you don't think research is important to something that's supposed to be true, what do you think the end result will be? The creative treatment of the truth is a lie.
