I would usually say that it's normal, but gay people have that weird thing where middle-aged gay people run halfway houses for gay runaway kids. That's what this sounds like.
Kids running away from their families to live with some 30-ish gay man just strikes me as really wrong. I don't know if sex is involved in such a relationship, but one can only assume that it is.
