Does a name determine who you are?

I don't like my last name and I was just wondering if it's really the name that matters or the things I do in life that determines who I am really. I know that in changing my name it won't change anything about me physically or mentally but I'd rather not be associated to the bastards where I got the name in the case someone should associate me with them (My biological father and paternal family line).

    No, it doesn't matter.
You could be someone else with the same name.

If it's really stressing you out that bad, then go take on your mother's last name or maiden name. If you are a guy and you have kids later without changing your name, then tell the mate to give the kids their last name instead. You could possibly take on her last name as well. It doesn't have to be repeated, but if you want to break your paternal ties to anything concerning you in name.... Go for it. If you're a female then you can definitely break from paternal ties even more, since you don't have his paternal lineage (you could only check it by using his or a male sibling's DNA). A female taking her mom's last name, along with multiple copies of her mtDNA is dead set.
