I really doubt that. According to wikipedia most MSG on the market IS natural, it's made by bacterial fermentation of sugar.
More likely the problem is that having it in pure form makes it possible to add a ridiculous quantity to food, which some people apparently have a bad reaction to.
Fair point I guess, that article did seem a little bit slanted. Do you have a more reliable source indicating that MSG is NOT produced by fermentation?

Hmmm... You wouldn't happen to know just how bad any form of GMO can be for you... would you? I'd be happy to tell you ALLLLLLL~ about them. :D
Okay... so now it's a GMOs. I admit I'm a bit skeptical about that being a good idea (although GMOs are currently keeping my sister alive). I can't find any information on whether most Corynebacterium glutamicum used in MSG production is GM or not, but it may well be.
But that "impurities" talk is nonsense. In the context of MSG production, anything other than MSG is an impurity. Of course no product is ever going to be 100% pure. But somehow fresh meat and produce are magically "pure", only because they changed the definition. If a tomato fell the the fermentation vat it would be considered loaded with impurities. And it's not like everything in tomatoes harmless, they contain detectable levels of nicotine, for instance. By any objective standard, natural products are LESS pure. So basically this is the stupidest argument ever. (I realize you were only quoting that from somewhere, so no offense intended.)
I did read it, and you shifted from blaming MSG to blaming GMO's (which, notably, you admittedly "didn't even realize were used in MSG manufacture"....which tells us something...). Choose one, and effectively PROVE it's harmful or else shut up and realize you have been suckered.

The naturally occurring amino acid is perfectly safe... it's the manufactured version called MSG that is harmful.

I don't believe the body can tell the difference. I don't think there IS a difference.
