Someone once told me the same. Then I got fucked over by people I trusted multiple times. Only a fool would carry on trusting people. Better to have a reason to trust somebody than to do it just because. In my books - never put yourself in a situation where anybody can hurt you or take something away from you. Always protect yourself. Give nothing away.
You sounds so bitter, and I bet you are young too. Not all people are the same though. Just because a couple of assholes fucked you over doesnt mean that another person will. I judge a person's character based on their merits not on my past experiences and hang ups. I always give people the benefit of the doubt but when they break my trust thats it I end up cutting them off.
You're very condescending if anything there should be varied levels of trust but never full trust in anyone or even your own decisions. when your trust is broken blame yourself for being naive enough to run with the blinders on
Do you trust your girlfriend/boyfriend?

I'm not young, and if you don't learn from your life experiences what's the point?
