OK, First off, I am glad cops are there, and I totally respect the job they do. its a hard job, and i dont want to think of life without some form of law enforcement.
About why I dont trust them. What I learned from watching my brother. Think about this: 99% of the contact they have with people is negative. Like some on here, they justify thier evil, and want to flaunt the laws that cops are there to enforce. So, the cops have negtive contact with them. After time, this gives cops a jagged edge, they stop trusting people. Also, when it comes to your word against theirs, the courts always will take the word of the cop, so they are legally put above the people they protect. Add to that they are expected to save lives, be a hero. Which builds in their heads, they are heros, and above the people in that respect, but its still a hugh ego. Lastly, they learn the smart ways crooks keep from being caught.
When you consider all this, it is way to easy for a cop to become crooked, dirty in some way. They can justify it (remember, all that negative contact), saying everybody is guilty of something. They have the knowledge (From criminals). And, they feel above the law (your word against theirs). I dont think all cops are bad, but in many circumstances, i dont trust them. Sorry.

so, like a stripper constantly harassed by assholes, the police officers slowly start to think that everyone's an asshole based on their experience with people. well, that's what I got from this.

To catch a criminal you must know a criminal. Same as a doctor who knows cancer they are treating cancer but it does not mean they will catch it or ever had it. Knowledge is a very valuable thing and we should all try to broaden our knowledge. We all have the ability to do bad and evil it simply goes to see how good of people we really are, and the choices we make at the end of the day.

Police are people just like you or I.
Some are good people, some are bad...
No matter what field you look in there will always be some people who are good and some who aren't. It's just life.

  • I've known at least three on a personal level and they were all arrogant pricks. But, I've seen some on the local news that look intelligent and compassionate - I wish they were all like that.

I think of the Stanford Prison Experiment, when it comes to cops. Its pretty easy for them to run away with their privileges, to become abusive. They have psyche tests to weed out the 'likely to abuse' personality, but it doesn't really do much, they also have cheats available for the test, anyway. I have always been in awe of the good cops, I think its not easy at all to rise above and stay the ideal. Cops scare the shit out of me, because they're humans with uniforms, sanctioned power, and guns.

Don't trust them. I have never liked cops, and then finally my sister and I had unnecessary run ins with them. My sister asked her piece of shit boyfriend to leave her house, after he wouldn't, she called the cops. The cops came and noticed that both he and my sister have bruises (neither of which was caused by them hitting each other). Guess what the cops do? They arrest BOTH of them, and charge BOTH of them for domestic violence. Only for them to go to court and get the case thrown out before even going to trial, but now she has a domestic battery charge on her record that she has to explain to future employers.

As for me, long story short, I wasn't doing anything wrong, just hanging at a creek. Apparently the cops were looking for a specific person. When they saw me, they shine a bright light in my eyes and screamed "STOP RIGHT THERE, PULL YOUR SHIRT UP" I stopped and pulled my shirt up for 15 seconds to show them I didn't have anything. I let my shirt down. Then they yelled "PULL UP YOUR FUCKING SHIRT", i was like sheesh okay, and complied. Then another cop comes over holding my backpack, which he had already illegally searched, and found weed in.

After all of this is said and done, I get a few lawyers opinions, they all say it was an illegal search, and my lawyer gets them to give me my second deferred prosecution (first was for an MIC, and you're only allowed one deferred prosecution in your lifetime) as a deal. (It costs less money to make a deal instead of paying a lawyer to go to trial, and even if I fought the case and won, it will still show up on my record the same as if I just got the deferred prosecution)

The courts may assume people are innocent until proven guilty. Cops assume EVERYONE is guilty until proven innocent. Cops will find ANY reason to charge you, even if there is no proof or if they didn't follow protocol. Then they just let the court decide, and let the people explain why there are horrendous charges on their record.

I can go on and on about all the people I know who were falsely charged, held on mistaken identity, and even tackled to the ground and pushed into the concrete for wearing the same colored jacket as a criminal they were looking for.

Well on a personal level: I met some cops when my sis went to the academy (she ended up switching career choices) I had a friend that was an EMT so he had a few cop buddies. So yeah they're cool and I trust them.

The only people that bitch about cops are the ones that get ticketed but hey, it's not their fault. They have a quota. I myself have never been ticketed, I don't speed or use the TGIF parking to spend 5 hours at a concert.

But I will say cops are the scariest drivers in the world. They got their hand on the wheel, they're using their radio, typing on their laptops, and sipping coffee all at the same time.

all these folks saying all cops are bad are ignorant and are probably constantly doing things that are illegal, hence them having so many run-ins with the cops.

if you're a law-abiding citizen, chances are, you won't have too many issues with the cops.. they'll leave you alone.

i just hate when you have drug dealers and women beaters who say all cops are bad. gee, did ya ever think that maybe if you weren't selling crack on the corner or beating your girlfriend's face into a bloody pulp, that maybe the cops wouldn't give you such a hard time? idiots. same thing goes for wreckless drivers. stop driving 90mph in a 55, and stop driving drunk. ever think that the cop that pulled you over for speeding was potentially saving your life and someone elses by preventing a crash?

be good, and the cops will be good to you. you never know when you're gonna need one on your side. they are, after all, there to serve and protect.

        there, i'm done.

Not always, My uncle got pulled over by a cop even though he did nothing wrong. The cop first claimed he was speeding, when my uncle replied that he wasnt, then the cop smashes his tail light said that his tail light was broken. My uncle fought the ticket though with the traffic court and won cause the cops camera showed the cop breaking the light.

I think there are good cops and bad cops. I know two cops my uncle and my cousins husband. My uncle is awesome and he is a nice guy and isn't one of those cops to give tickets and all that crap. My cousins husband is a real jerk. Then there's this police officer where I lives he literally hides behind a telephone pole and weights for people he can catch (it's right after you get down this steep hill, it switch from 70k to 50 right off the hill!) but I think most are there to help not to give you a ticket, but there are some crappy cops. But there are crappy people in the world to, doesn't mean everyone is.

If you think the cops will protect you before themselves, you are dead wrong and might be as a result. They only care about arresting enough people to make the grant limit so they get their money from Uncle Sam. They only care about going home at the end of the day. And if it means shooting and improsoning innocent people to do that, then so be it (in their eyes). It's fucekd up. As soon as it became a business to steal freedoms, as soon as men became rich off of those behind bars, we should have taken notice and stopped it. Because in the last ten years California built 15 times more prisons than universities and schools.

The cops are out to serve themselves first, not us. The proof is in how they shoot unarmed people and dogs for their "safety". How they pepper spray cuffed protesters and plant guns on murdered fleeing suspects. How many times have we all shrugged off the shit some black guy says "the cops beat me up and planted drugs on me" until someone caught it on cell video. How many times has this shit happened when it's not seen? That's what sacred me. If even ONE innocent person is convicted of a crime they didn't commit or ONE person is killed when they shouldn't have been, the entire fucking system needs to come down. If we keep tolerating it. It's GONNA keep happening.

I have met cops before everyone I have met did not attack or harrase me. I have called them for sexuel harrasement before as I was being threatened or harrassed by freinds of mine. So when so many poeple want to kill and rape and see it as nothing I prefere the cop to the worthless shit that walks around what we call scociety.

It seems to me that some police officers have a "chip on their shoulder", like they were picked on in school alot, or even were the bully themselves, and this is their way of showing the world, "look who has the power now!".

The police are not evil, they are just dangerous. I don't hate them any more than I would hate a rabid bear, but I avoid them just as much. There are no "good cops" and "bad cops", just people with weapons, uniforms, and badges that have been told that they have something called "authority". A very, very hazardous situation.
