The Cold War wasn't even an armed conflict. It was a conflict of who could create the best arms. If there was a WWIII, then it was WWII. Many people consider The Seven Years War to be the real WWI.
Fun fact: more people died during the Cold War than the First World War. It was spread out over a much longer time period, of course, but it still happened.
That doesn't mean that it was an armed conflict. No one fought anyone during the Cold War. By definition, the Cold War wasn't even a war. We just call it that for some stupid reason.
If anything, "Cold War" is a misnomer because ever since the end of WWII and the present there has always been at least one conflict somewhere in the world where the proxies of the USA have been fighting the proxies of the USSR (and now Russia) and/or China.
There might not have been Americans on the ground in Afghanistan shooting at Russians, or Chinese or Russians shooting at Americans in Vietnam, but saying that proxy conflicts were not related in any way to the conflict between the USA, the USSR/Russia and China is ahistorical.
Do you think WWIII might happen soon?
