My Mom was 43 when she had her last kid and the baby turned out fine. Personally, while the risks are a little bit higher, I think that one of the upsides to having children later is that the woman is probably more stable and better educated then a lot of your younger women having kids.
The downside is the factor of energy. I want to say not all women over 40 have the energy anymore to care for a young child in the way that they deserve, but a lot of younger women (thanks to yee olde obesity epidemic) don't really have the energy either. That's not really an argument I can legitimately use against it at this point.
There are other downsides that come with the age of the mother, but overall I believe that if a woman is physically able and financially able to provide a stable life for the child and she wants to have a child, she should do it.
