Yes, it's normal. I've probably made jokes that are completely stupid, a lot of people have. What you've wrote about is something I'd personally try to avoid doing. It happens to people from every country, by people from pretty much every country, though. It doesn't bother me too much, although if it can be pretty annoying at times. Ignorance isn't great. Although, speaking of saying stupid things and ignorance, I once said something on the site well over a year ago about ignorant people, which was actually very stupid.:P It didn't even make sense to me, reading it a year later:S.
