Do you think this counts as racist?

  • But that is racist - by definition. To believe that inherent racial traits merit qualitative judgment and that different races are thus necessarily unequal is, by definition, racism. So for one to say, "I don't like being with [race X] because they are ______" is racist.

    • That's one of my sidepoints. Racism now takes away what you would prefer and makes your choice seem like negativity. So now you have to be careful of what you like in a partner or you're a racist. If appearance counts as being unequal, then black, whites and Asians are unequal because they look different. I don't think appearance should be put in the equality role though.

Surely you of all people can see where I'm coming from?

      • Well, you didn't specify that you were talking about appearance. If you're not attracted to a particular skin tone or facial feature, that's one thing. But to say "I don't like being with black people in a relationship" implies that all black people share particular social qualities that you do not wish to associate with, and that is unequivocally racist.

        • No, no. What I meant was just skin tone and facial features.
