We are nowhere near the center of the galaxy nor will we ever be. The Andrometa galaxy won't colide with our galaxy for at least 3 billion years. To give you an idea of how long that is from now the Earth is estimated at 4.5 billion years old and the whole universe is estimated at 13 or 14 billion years old. Also magnetic pole shifts happen often on a planetary time scale and take thousands of years to complete.
