Do you think that having sex during pregnancy is appropriate?

Just the thought of someone having sex while pregnant (especially during the later months) makes me cringe. I know that there are some benefits, like helping the labor process speed up, but I don't approve of it at all. For example, let's say I was pregnant (hypothetically of course) and my spouse and I we're going at it. I think it would feel so, so wrong - I mean, the baby is right there, for goodness sake! It's like having your child watch you do it! And what if it accidentally gets hurt? I would not risk taking that chance at all.

I just... no.

So, what about you? Do you approve of sex during pregnancy? If so, why?

  • if your doctor/midwife says it's ok, then it should be.

  • The baby is protected by both the amniotic sac and by a wad of mucus that forms. There are certain conditions where sex is inadvisable in the later stages of pregnancy but - in general - it's safe.

As for appropriateness, I see where you're going, but the baby couldn't possibly view this. There are cases where babies have responded to the mother's orgasms or perhaps endorphins. That raises its own little moral issue.

  • It's not dangerous if that's what you're worried about. As for appropriate, I think that's up to the couple to decide.
