Do you think religion is a plague?

  • I think a lot of people have a problem with reliigion, but I don't think it's going deep enough to solve the root to call it a plague. Most popular religious texts stripped down are just common sense stuff like, "Hey, murdering people? Maybe don't do that." So if people want to dig deep and stop the problem, they need to identify the roots. It's like humanity is obsessed with being in clubs, then decides the club sucks and they're going to start their own club with black jack and other things. I think the problem isn't religion, I think it's a flaw with people that needs a better solution.

    • Murdering people, hey maybe don't do that?
LOL I've got the impression that most religions are more something like: masturbate? Be tortured in hell for eternity...

          • Actually, the Bible doesn't forbid masturbation expressly. The reason why (many) Christians are against it is that sex is presented in the Bible as an expression of relationship, and of bonds between people. Masturbation is against this purpose. Logically, then, masturbation between couples is thus fine. But protestants tend to abide by conscience, not rules, so it'd be right for some and not right for others. We can often sense if we are displeasing God by our actions: like when you've dispeased anyone, there's a kind of distance...

    • "Don't murder people... Unless they're gay, unreligious, your child and they talked back to you, your daughter who had sex before marriage, or your slave who disobeyed you. The slave has to be alive for a least a day after you wound them of course."
