do you think religion is a crutch used to deny the meaninglessness of life?

  • How does Newton's christian beliefs support your case? Most people in the old ages used to be religious, atheists did exist but had to live in hiding lest they be tortured and killed for their ideas. Newton may be a smart guy academically but he was a human too( not immune to fear of death)
By the way, newton used to believe in alchemy too.

    • I'd hardly call Newton's time "the old ages", he was alive from the mid-1600's to the early 1700's. Yes, Newton believed in alchemy, but so did most people in his time. That doesn't make him any less intelligent. But you don't like Newton as an example? Fine. How about Charles Babbage? Or Thomas Jefferson? Or Gregor Mendel? Were they all "weak-minded"? Or "delusional"? Even today, only 7% of the world's population is atheist. Are you seriously suggesting that 93% of the population of earth is "weak-minded" and "delusional"? It's bigotry and nothing more.

      • The point is we know Newton for his scientific achievements not his religious beliefs. Newton would just have been another guy if he did not not do his work on science.

All of the other people you mentioned are famous for their other works and not for their religious beliefs. I fail to see how these people's fame and accomplishments supports your case of God and religion.

Your stating that most of world population is religious does not help your case either. As you already know religions all over the world are in an eternal conflict with each other over who the "True God" is, or whose version of genesis is true.

What exactly does your religion offers people anyway? Life is same with or without God, so why complicate matters? How does my life change if I start believing?

        • Your response is a strawman. My point is not about whether or not God exists, my point is that your claim that anyone who follows a religion is weak-minded and delusional is nothing more than bigotry.

          • You are weak minded because you believe in your fairy tale delusions. Summon your God and lets settle this once and for all.

            • I'm not going to play these games with you. You're a bigot and I'm not going to deal with you any more. The only thing I have left to say to you is may God have mercy on your soul. And I genuinely mean that.

    • Atheism before the modern age did exsist but it was commonly thought that it was a very stupid thing to practice. I dont know if you are aware but life fucking sucks for humans all the way up to the modern era. To believe in nothing was too stupid to a choice to make.
