  • Legal in Australia.
Girls are registered, have regular health checks, protected by all normal employment rights.
Must work from a licensed brothel - no street-walkers or home visits (although it happens)
Have security, etc but no pimps.
Seems a lot better for everyone than the situation in the US

    • The law varies from state to state in Australia, as it's not a federal law. I don't know which state you're talking about, but in Victoria street prostitution and home visits are both legal. Legally no pimps but I'll bet there are still lots.

  • Well I have only one problem with it being legalized, and its has nothing to do with safety or morality or even health issues. If its legalized that means the government gets involved, taxes, regulations, inspections etc. etc. etc.To say that the US government could fuck up a wet dream is not far from the truth. A number of years a go the IRS seized a house of prostitution in Nevada for failure to pay their taxes. That means the place was making money right, well the place went bankrupt in less then a year. So when you can't make money running a whore house what does that tell you. Also the same argument holds true with making pot legal with all the taxes fees etc. the government levies on everything its just gonna drive the price up of course so the neighborhood dealer will be selling discount weed and the housewife turning tricks or the street walker will be giving discount blowjobs

  • It's a very difficult argument and I'm by no means convinced, but I think I would legalize it. The whole culture of pseudo-moralistic criminalizing of different types of work disrupts any kind of meaningful moral debate about the set-up of work generally and sex work specifically.

  • Yes, absolutely. Whilst there are some drawbacks in terms of it being a taxable vice, the industry being legally regulated would offer so much more protection to the women involved, not to mention the fact that health checkups would make things safer for clients.

  • if they were safe and smart about it. they would have to do regular std checks in order to be a registered prostitute. they would have to do it at licensed brothels as well theres a lot of crazy people out there we don't need them kidnapping and murdering prostitutes. but other then that i think its a decent idea.

  • Once something like prostitution is legalized, the sex workers can get regular check ups and be disease certified free. Those with children can get proper child care services.
There are so many advantages and no disadvantages at all, I do not understand why is continues top be illegal.
OK, I do understand; FUCK THE CHURCH!

  • I don't think it should be illegal, but I would maybe introduce regular controls and stricter laws about it.

  • Of course! It makes the whole thing safer for everybody without criminalizing behavior which has existed fairly peacefully since the dawn of civilization.

  • Yes im a woman

I think it should so that safer inviroments could be made for the women evolved.
so that if a woman was being abused she would feel safer coming to the police. Put the pumps in jail not the abused.

  • Meeeeeeeeeeeeeh, yeah. I personally would find it lazy for someone to work as and so would not use any myself, which is why I was "Meeeeeeeeeeeh" about it, I think it would breed more lazy people, but yeah, sure. Their bodies.

            • I think they were saying delete "their" comments, as in their own. Which I don't.

Have I deleted the comments of others in the past? Yes. Why? Because they were either irrelevant or just cussing.

The one you're clearly talking about was when people were not actually answering the question in the post and answering a completely different question from the post, therefor I deleted them. I told them their comments would be kept up if it was in response to the actual question, which they didn't do. Not my fault people decided to bring up irrelevant things on a post and resulted in those comments being treated irrelevant.

        • Happened a few times where someone started responding and then their comments would just disapear.

          Comment Hidden ( show )
  • No. A lot more people would turn to it than need too. Few people like it, and those who do are better off pursuing a career in porn.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Yes, but I'd prefer it only be legal in licensed brothels and maybe they could do house calls. I don't think soliciting on the street should be. It's too dangerous for the ladies.

  • Could I point out that in relation to both prostitution and cannabis, legalisation is not the same thing as decriminalisation.

For example, homosexual activity used to be illegal but has been decriminialised, so there aren't regulations governing it, just as there aren't regulations governing heterosexual sex. (I'm not talking about rape & sexual assault, obviously.)

I can see why, but it's kind of funny that it's illegal in many places for someone to live off the earnings of prostitution (pimping) but it's not illegal to live off any other form of earnings.

    • So which do you think is better, decriminalization of prostitution, or legalization?

      Comment Hidden ( show )
        -
      • Decriminalisation, with existing laws which apply to other work covering this work also: eg, safe working conditions, no coercion etc.

  • We have porn so why not? Porn is prostitution in front of a camera. Same difference! Same thing with movies which involve sex/kissing in them. That could be considered "Soft Porn".

  • Well, damn. I was the first "No - I am a woman". Interesting.

Always good to hear a different point of view.

      • Well, now after reading some of the comments, I'm kind of conflicted.

Originally, I was thinking along the lines of the negative impact of sexual exploitation and trafficking - along with the desensitization of sex itself.

But not I'm kind of iffy. If we legalize it, laws can be put in place to regulate abuse, disease treatment and etc., which is really a problem right now. But I don't know. I feel like from there, society will begin to have the mind-set like nothing is really "wrong" anymore as long the government regulates it. That seems like it'll get out of hand.

  • Yeah rape cases will dramatically minimised and every woman will be independed but no tax though

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • id lose out on profits from my pimpin operation

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • If it prevented even a single rape it'd be more than worthwhile.
