Do you think people know how difficult parenting is?

As a kid, I spent quite a bit of time child-rearing for my siblings, from infancy to their early teen years (which is when I moved out) so I learned from a pretty early age that parenting- ESPECIALLY raising a baby is HARD WORK. On TV it is portrayed as some beautiful heartwarming experience but in reality, until the children are around 3-4, the beautiful, fun and heartwarming moments are few and far between.

So here I sit seeing is it normal posts from people my age or younger saying "I don't care if I get Pregnant" or "I really want a baby now". It is doubtful that many of these young girls ever spent any real time child-rearing.

I don't think that many people know how difficult child-rearing can be. If they did, I believe that many of them would put more effort into not having children.

Do you think that people (especially young people that want children) know EXACTLY HOW difficult parenting is?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • no way. NO amount of preparation actually "prepares" you to be a parent. it is hard work, although it is worth it. but i think what very few younger girls realize is that YOUR life gets put on hold so that you can help your child live THEIR life. you dont really get to resume yours until later. at least not if you want to be a decent parent who isnt stumbling home drunk or high to your child left at a babysitters or parents.

  • How is babby formed?!? I laughed at that. Anyways, no, you never fully understand parenting until you've experienced it yourself.

  • They were probably the ones who begged their parents to get a dog and ended up never taking care of it & ignored it after a week.

  • Regardless of how old you are You'll never know how challenging it is until u have one. It's a learn as you go , life long thing.

  • They are fucking clueless. I suggest they listen to Louis CK's stories of raising his children. :P

  • No they don't realise. If they did, we wouldn't see so many badly-behaved little shits out there. Their parents failed them.

  • COMPLETELY AGREE!
Holy shit, it was just like that in that school I used to go to.
"I wanna babyy!! Ima be a mother when I'm 16!!"
I just wanted to SLAP them for being so IGNORANT.
Now I'm in University and people are a lot more intelligent but still... I know some of those girls who did end up being teen mothers!

I've personally never actually had to rear a child myself, although from just OBSERVING the world around me I can see it's incredibly had work! Constantly having to put your child fist, respond to their emotional and physical needs once they get to about 3, dealing with all sorts of problems along the way... Not to mention the costs, wants and needs of your children... It's just exhausting.

I know I'm not going to have a child ever unless I get a suitable reliable partner, a safe comfortable environment and plenty of time. Which... Is probably never going to happen. I know if I went and had a child before those requirements were met.. I'd snap.

  • Too many girls are falling pregnant. I was watching a show on TV not so long ago about these girls that wanted children at a young age, suckered their boyfriends or random guys in order to gtet pregnant, then the men got forced to pay for the child they got suckered in to being a father to.

    • Yeah, I heard (probably on the health section of yahoo news a year or so ago) that teh scienteeests are working on birth control pills for men. That would be awesome. I have had guy friends that let themselves get suckered into this shit too.

My advice to these guys: when she starts talking about how much she wants kids more than half the time y'all are together and you've made it clear that you don't want any, gtfo.

      • I can't wait for the day that the male equivelent to the pill is made. You know for a fact that males will be taking it. Then the poor ol' females that try to trap a male in to become a father will have no power to do so.

        • I have to disagree with you there. I know for damned sure that many males won't be taking it. I know many females that genuinly don't want children (as in, they nearly killed themselves upon finding out they WERE pregnant) that don't even take the fucking pill.

And I know many males that had no intention of ever having children that willingly (and often suggested) opted out of condoms. AND they didn't have the sense to pull out either v.v Yeah I was a stupid kid too but not THAT stupid... I must also add that these folks did not even consider Plan B.

Yes sir, these are the people who will be sending their kids to school with my kids. This is the future of our society. What is common sense to some people is other-worldly knowledge to others. And we all know there is no such thing as "internet" and "google" to use as information sources. Duh.

It all amounts to a general lack of foresight and understanding of how real and imminent the dangers or pregnancy and the hardships of pregnancy really are. So I must revice your statement for you.

Men that have any sense will take the pill.

          • Yeah, obviously not all will, but I'm possitive a large number will. Considering that males risk more from a woman getting pregnant due to society favouring females on this certain topic, it's more likely that males will take the pill more than women do to ensure they aren't trapped in to parenthood.

Yes, but wearing a condom takes away some of the pleasure of sex, I'm sure? So taking the pill would be more easier and more satisfying for them to have sex without worrying about getting the woman pregnant.

I do believe that alot more men will take part in taking the pill. They don't get anything out of having children if they aren't wanting children, where as females usually get support left and right from the goverment.

I guess I can't know for sure that most men would take the pill, but in my opinion they will.

            • Hmm... I'd say the same percentage of men would take it as women do.

Quite honestly, would a man with any sense risk an unwanted pregnancy just to experience sex without a condom? And secondly, if a man with any sense would want such an experience THAT BADLY, would he not have the sense to buy the woman a morning after pill?
Thirdly, would a man with any sense have sex with a woman that is too fucking stupid to take his pill because she has a lax attitude towards pregnancy?

I know heat of the moment and what not, I have been there, done that but the "moment" doesn't last 3 fucking days, which is just enough time to get a morning after pill.

I'm not arguing with you, I believe you are right that many men will take this pill, and it probably will have a mild to moderate impact on pregnancy rates but my thought is...

What ARE these men who are obviously intelligent enough to know that they can not handle a child at that point doing with women that are not sensible enough to know that they can not handle children either?

  • An excellent post!!

I get really annoyed with TV when I see parents of a young baby sitting in the bar chatting with friends etc. hahaha no mention of the baby, of paying babysitters, of having no money to go to the bar anymore, no energy to go etc. It is soooo unrealistic!!

In real life - The man might be in the pub but very rarely will they both be there together! If the female has a free moment she'll be doing laundry, housework, etc etc etc.

God help these young foolish women :o(
