So many people go to college/university now, it doesn't automatically impress employers anymore. It's not a special achievement.
Like someone else said, it's only worth it if you're going into a subject which has very lucrative job opportunities at the end of it. If you're going to college/university to do "gender studies" or "media studies" you are wasting both your time and a lot of money.
Increasingly, it's past work experience that employers are looking for. It's almost like we're going back to how it used to be before everyone went to university, where people had to start small and work their way up.
